Really Obsessed With: Nerdy Watches

I'm a nerd at heart. Sometimes, all I want to do is watch NOVA specials or reading about statistical data, and there's honestly few things that get me as excited as finishing an especially nasty integration problem or figuring out how to calculate the buoyancy of a block of wood. That said, I'm not a fan of the short sleeved button up or socks and sandals found on a lot of my nerdy peers. But, something that I can get excited about are these watches. Rock it old school with a Casio calculator, go minimalist with a Cosmos Oops, or for those hardcore geeks--the Kerala Trance LED watch reads the time in binary. Heck yes!

Fresh Junk: Colored Jeans

If you dig deep enough in your mom's closet, you might be able to find a pair of high waisted, taper-legged jeans in a lovely puke-pink or, in my mother's case, a nice burnt orange. While it might have looked "boss" back then, those jeans just wouldn't quite work today. Thankfully, Ksubi's redone their skinnies in candy colors (Posh is a fan), and you can find copies at UO and Topshop. A few words of warning: keep the top loose and simple, and go sparingly on the jewelry.

Fresh Junk: Backpacks

Ladies and gentlemen, speak forth, and the industry will listen. Years of complaining that backpacks were made for function and definately not for fashion have finally reached the merchendising moguls, and now, I guess for the first time in years, we can finally throw out our impractical messenger bags and totes. No more backpain! No more busted straps! No more walking too quickly and shamefully when you have to lug around your fugly misshapen black backpack! Rejoice fellow readers! The rapture has come!

Channeling: Bayou Babe

I've had Mumpsy and The Heathens on repeat on iTunes for a fat month now. I've never really been a southern folk kind of gal, but their rock-inspired sensibilities have made me itching to pack up and move to Florida. Find their albums on post-records, and find these clothes at UO and Forever 21.

Check the Hottie: Jenny Lewis

You rarely find that a solo project from a tighknit band would have its own soul and sound, but Rilo Kiley seems to be a breeding ground for talent. Blake has his The Elected; Morgan, her Whispertown2000; and probably the most famous of the pack, Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins put out a beautiful gem of a record last year. Maybe it's her knockout voice, her folksy melodies, or maybe I'm just really into those bangs, but I think Jenny Lewis is indie's hottest babydoll. Steal her look with mini dresses, belted waists, and don't be afraid to rock white knee socks.

Really Obsessed With: Payless

Ok. So what? I mean, of course I admired her professional attire, chatty personality and her enthusiasm for her job. But the thing I was really into about my interviewer for my internship? Those oh-my-god so-cute purple-pointed brushed-suede flats that she was wearing. In fact, after taking a quick lookaround at the office, absolutely everyone was wearing sick shoes. So, what's a college girl to do? I need lots of really cute, slightly trendy, candy colored shoes that's, more importantly, affordable. Thank the shoe gods for Payless. With their newest spring inventory, I'm bound to start off my internship on the right foot (I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself).

Best part? None of them are over $20!

Just Purchased: Girlprops Jewelry

I'm not really an accessories type of girl (unless you count my unhealthy collecting of sunglass). I keep all my sad jewelry in a sad sad jewelry case that remains, sadly, parked on top of my bookshelf. However, inspired by all the rad gold jewelry over at girlprops, I think I might have to start becoming one. Pendant necklances, animal motifs, bad-ass door knocker earings: yes yes yes yes yes. And at only a few dollars a pop, I can afford to buy them all.

Celebrate Good Times: 4.20

Maybe it's because I'm at the school that bred some of the most influential counterculturalists in the country, or maybe because it's because it's a college thing, but I never remembered 4.20 being such a big deal before. Kick it with your most lived in pair of sandals, a flowy boho top and your grungiest jeans (ones you won't mind getting dirty). Don't forget your lighter, and definately don't forget your money for when the munchies hit (keep it in a fredflare taco pouch, if you want to be, you know, ironic or something).

Fresh Junk: Hot Pants

On days when wind and cold and shitty skies are cramping my style, the only thing I can think of is having a dance party. That's right. I went right back to the dorm, put on my shortest pair of mesh shorts and jammed out a bit to some MIA and Sly Stone. Get your own blues chaser-away-ers at Rebel Yell and American Apparel.

Really Obsessed With: The Fanny Pack

Long relegated to Asian tourists, 90's yuppies, and from what my my buddy Jersey Dave tells me, drug dealing gangsters, the fanny pack has had a not so spectacular time in the fashion world. But really, I don't get it what's not to get. Not only are keys, cell phones and random shit a mere zip away, they can actually be really cute. Baby Phat and Anna Roi show you how to do it correctly (to the side, rather than in the front) and fannypack.com has some really choice lookers in leathers and other plush materials for under $100. And if you dig hard enough, I bet you'll be able to find some non-bald-eagle-perched-on-a-cactus ones at your local thrift shop.

Channeling: Holly Golightly

Like any other girl out there, I have a particular affinity towards Breakfast at Tiffany's. It could be that I could see myself in her lifestyle (minus the delusions, and mild forays into prostitution), or it could just be her too-blingin' wardrobe. Golightly also shows us just how to wear the newest trends in headwear. Don't just wear your turban when you're mermaiding in the sun! How about trying it out when you're just sitting on your windowsill jamming to some Sinatra tunes. What should you wear your new bejeweled barrette with? A cup of coffee and a donut! Don't stop there--watch the movie for yourself to see the perfect opportunities to rock a mink cloche, a wide-brimmed hat, and the sickest tiara this side of the river.

In Memory

My thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy. Today was a day that will not be soon forgotten--I hope that this is the last of this pattern of school violence. RIP 32.

Current Threads: Getting My Life Together

Papers + tests + house hunting + job searching = one frizzy frazzy Connie. But, after a week of some intese "getting shit done", I can lay back and finally enjoy the fruits of my effort. One sicky sick internship? Check. One four-bedroom "cottage" with potential? Cheeeckk. One weekend free of obligations? OMG check check check!!! So, in celebration of prettylegit's 100th post I'd like to thank everyone who checks this page. It's only been a little more than three months, and this blog has turned into something much more than I thought'd it be. Stay tuned, I'm working on some new ideas and the next 100 posts are sure to be exciting!

Mad Delusions: The Donovan by Mike and Chris

I've been have scouring local shops and such for an affordable, fitted, hooded, black leather jacket. And really, is that so much to ask for? Too bad I found it at the Mike and Chris website. Meet Donovan. He's fitted. Hooded. Come in an array of colors (including black). And $668. Which makes him just $618 out of my price range. Typical, right? You meet the man of your dreams, and he's unattainable. Myyyy liiiiifeee. Whyyyy?

Channeling: This Girl

So I saw this leggy beauty on the satorialist sometime last week and I haven't been able to get the image out of my mind. Me standing at line at the dining center: "Where the hell did she get those perfect shoes?" Me studying for my poli sci exam: "When have Member's Only jackets ever looked so polished?" Me downward-facing-dog-ing during a midnight round of yoga: "I wonder if I can pull off the stretchy headband across the forehead look?" Prep the Themester: Jungle Party

Unless your wardrobe resembles that of Victoria Gotti, I'm pretty sure that most of us don't have the correct outfits for a jungle party. However, if you are in those lucky few, it's the perfect occassion to rock our leopard/tiger/zebra printed tops. For the rest of us, think natural fibers and colors in the brown and orange family. If you're really going all gung-ho, go Amazon princess with a bow and arrow, facepaint and a leather loincloth.

OMG, Why?: Flesh Colored Leggings

"Well shucks," I first thought. "Props to that girl for being brave enough to wear a miniskirt when she has that bad a case of eczema." Upon closer inspection, I discovered that no, it wasn't the inflammatory breakouts of skin lesions that I had exepcted. It was, in fact, the most hideous leggings that I had ever seen. Ever. They were white, lacy, and close enough to her skin color for me to diagnose her with a skin disease. But, if you feel compelled to take your leggings/tights the lacy route, stick to black or neons. Anything else will make friend-making seriously awkward.

Check the Hottie: Casey C

Fashion can be found in every nook and cranny of the US. Case in point: Casey C. Hailing from the midwestern plains of the University of Minnesota, Casey proves that even though you might find yourself surrounded by Abercrombie Queens, you can still have crazy mad style. Casey rocks sweet dresses, unexpected patterns and Holly Golightly-on-acid aethetics better than anyone. Two thumbs up Case--it's not often that someone gets us at prettylegit saying "Dayum girl, why you gotta look so cuute?"

Current Threads: Tuesday Shuffle

My Tuesdays may be the dullest of all my weekdays, and with a discussion canceled and two additional free hours, I've almost reached coma-inducing level of ennui. To spice things up, I've donned my EXCITING lobster beater (!) and my FABULOUS seersucker shorts (!!!), and topped it off with my CRAZY jean shirt (!!!OMFG!!!!@11). If that won't do it, then the three different decongestive meds I'm on might do the trick. Oh bother.
